About our founder

Who is Laurie Mias, the founder of MONO Skincare?

"With my mother owning a perfume shop for thirty-five years, I have tested, used, and ultimately thrown away hundreds of samples and skincare products over the course of my life. Aside from not being proud of the amount of waste it creates, it has allowed me to try out many beauty products and brands, and learn a lot about skin science and microbiology. Over the years, I have become particularly interested in the skin microbiome; but also concerned about the abundance of plastic in the beauty industry. The beauty industry needed to reduce its contribution to packaging waste, and I feel like I could be a part of that change."

Why did you create MONO Skincare?

“In 2014, I founded an organic cold-pressed juice company called Mr Green Juice, and later in 2017, I created a wellness center called REVĪVŌ. I designed comprehensive wellness retreat programs with nutritionists and health experts, and discovered how a prebiotic and probiotic diet could improve the immune system as well as gluten intolerance symptoms that some clients had been experiencing for years. Then it occurred to me: why not apply this science to skin? I read and researched a lot about the enormous benefits of using good bacteria, which helped me create MONO’s formulations in collaboration with a lab in Belgium.”

"I wanted this new skincare brand to also help us reduce our plastic consumption and reduce my contribution to the abundance of plastic waste in the beauty industry. The answer I found was MONO Skincare, a new line of refillable, prebiotic-rich, 100% natural beauty products that launched today. MONO's products - a makeup remover, facial cleanser, facial peel, facial toner, night serum and facial moisturizer - are sold as tablets that customers dissolve in water in one of the eco-friendly reusable containers - which you buy once and we sell too."

“I also think about the role that businesses like hotels and restaurants play in the refillable product game – after all, they consume far more products than other businesses. For this reason, we will be launching our body and hair care tablets as refillable solutions for hotel amenities.”
